As a result of the rapid evolution of genetics in pig husbandry, the litter sizes of sows have been steadily increasing. This means that sometimes it is necessary to shift to full or partial rearing of orphaned piglets. However, this requires a great deal of nutritional expertise. Newborn piglets in particular have very high nutrient requirements, extremely limited own immunity, an underdeveloped gastrointestinal tract and moreover are still highly dependent on liquid milk feeding.
