AVIPRO SALMONELLA VAC E

AVIPRO SALMONELLA VAC E

FOR LONG-LASTING PROTECTION

  • High immunogenicity – imitates natural route of infection
  • Drinking water: easy and cost–effective alternative to injections
  • Long-lasting protection
  • Does not survive in the environment
  • Does not interfere with monitoring programmes and management practices
  • Easy to differentiate from Salmonella field strains

AVIPRO SALMONELLA VAC E
Especially designed for chickens, this is a lyophilised live vaccine. One dose contains a minimum of 108 cfu of attenuated Salmonella Enteritidis bacteria, strain Sm24/Rif12/Ssq. This attenuated vaccine strain is designed to be sufficiently invasive to induce immunity in the bird but at the same time is made safe and sensitive to stress, resulting in very short duration of shedding from the birds and no survival in the environment.

Attenuated strain

AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E is a metabolic drift mutant strain that could naturally occur in the flora of the chicken gut. It has been selected according to attenuation criteria such as prolonged generation time. The Ssq (Super sensitivity to quinolones), called anti-epidemic marker, increases permeability of the bacteria membrane, which, in association with an attenuation marker that changes the metabolic compartment, creates a “handicapped” bacterium. It has a reduced virulence and is capable of surviving long enough inside the bird to stimulate immunity, but incapable of surviving in the environment.

Other features of the attenuation of AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E:

  • Shed for a few days only in vaccinated birds.
  • Studies have shown that AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E when administered to non-immune birds in lay is not transmitted either on or within the egg.
  • Reliably distinguishable from field strains with 3 independent markers (please check brochure on AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E – Differentiating Field Isolates From Vaccine Strain). AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E does not interfere with monitoring programmes.
  • Super-sensitive to quinolone antibiotics, has increased sensitivity to chloramphenicol, doxycycline and detergents and is sensitive to erythromycin.

High immunogenicity
By being administered orally, through drinking water, AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E imitates the natural route that a salmonella infection would take.  The strain from AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E attaches to the gut wall and triggers the stimulation of all three immunolo gical compartments: un specific response (Macrophages), cell-mediated specific response (T-lymphocytes) and humoral specific response (B-lymphocytes). Most important, oral vaccination induces immediate production of secretory IgA. This immunoglobulin will protect the gut lumen against infection of a field challenge of Salmonella Enteritidis, preventing invasion of other organs.

Drinking water: easy and cost–effective alternative to injections

  • Well-established method of application
  • Excellent coverage also in the day-old chick
  • Triggers appropriate immune response
  • Increases flexibility with vaccination crew
  • No additional handling for injections
  • No risk of injury through manipulation
  • No delay in growth
  • Animal welfare friendly
  • No interference with serological monitoring

Long-lasting protection
Protection which lasts from a few days after the first vaccination and throughout the production cycle – it is still present until at least 60 weeks of age. The level of protection is remarkably similar to that recorded just days after the first vaccination. This is important because salmonella can enter a flock at any time throughout the rearing and laying period and short-term protection is not enough. Trial results comparing broiler breeders vaccinated with the 3-drinking water programme with non vaccinated, both challenged, with an oral (as in real life) dose of 1 x 1010 cfu*, 44 weeks after the 3rd vaccination.

Protection against Salmonella Gallinarum
Efficacy of AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E was measured for protection against oral challenge with virulent Salmonella Gallinarum. Parameters verified were mortality, faecal shedding and organ persistence (data on file). The 3-dose programme with AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E induces excellent protection against heavy challenge with Salmonella Gallinarum up to 28 weeks of age (12 weeks post-vaccination). To reinforce immunity, revaccinations during lay may be advisable via the drinking water at intervals of 12 weeks.  The LAH vaccine strain is NOT transmitted via the ovary. Studies have shown that AviPro® SALMONELLA VAC E when ad - ministered to non-immune birds in lay is not transmitted either on or within the egg.

Vaccination with SALMONELLA VAC E is an important tool for salmonella control

  • To control Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella Gallinarum in poultry
  • To break the chain of infection from poultry to man
  • To assure food safety and quality
  • To strengthen consumer confidence in table eggs and poultry meat
  • To further increase consumption of poultry products
